warmth

FLEECE!

I have a fleece jacket, it’s soft and warm, and makes me soooo happy. Because now I can go outside with a jacket and I’m not still freezing. I’ve been wearing a track-ish jacket for a few years because it’s small enough to fit under other jackets, but it wasn’t providing quite enough warmth. So we went to old navy on Saturday and I got a warm fleece jacket with built in hand warmers. ^.^ My mood has gone up several notches over the last few days because of it (I like to be warm).

Saturday night we went to a concert with Alex’s family to see Elizabeth Von Trapp (yeah, the sound of music people). I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but her performance was amazing. She’s not a musician you could really sing along to, or with, but what she does with her voice and the words that she chooses in the songs that she writes is something that is more like painting than singing. She’s an illustrator with words and uses her voice like a painter uses a brush. I’ve never seen anything quite like that before, and it was amazing – completely unexpected,  so very artistic and stunning. I couldn’t help but feeling that she’s transcended the world of musicians and crossed a bridge and what she does and how she does it, is art. and it’s lovely.

Yesterday, Alex and I ended up finishing (sort of) a short we came up with the other day, and that was a blast. I love filming with him. We’re only able to do it on nights and weekends, but I love it. It’s fun to get out of our comfort zones and try new things (in the comfort and seclusion of our studio ;) ) and learn what we’re good at and comfortable with and figure out new things. The longest thing is post-production and adding in things and cutting things together, which I can’t really help with (because it’s all on Alex’s computer) but I love seeing what it’s like at all the stages. ^.^

Art on the West Coast (#6)

Today we went to the slopes and some of the people in our group skied, and Alex and I went tubing. Needless to say, I didn’t do any watercolors, but I did manage to get my daily dose of art in while I was warming up and watching the snowboarders come down the mountain.

Turns out bringing my tiny sketchpad and sharpie pen is a good idea.

Coughs and Giant Snowflakes

I’ve been sick on and off for a while…I guess it’s more that I’ve been sick, it just bothers me more at different times. Anyway, today I was feeling bad and so I brought out my pillow and a blanket and put them on the couch under the window. I sort of zombie-stare out of it into the sky and towards the roof with icicles. There was a huge icicle earlier, and then I looked away and when I looked back it was gone. I don’t know if it fell or melted…but on the other side there are 4 tinier skinnier ones that are just kinda hanging there like fangs. It’s like our gutter has a mouth and wants to bite…the air.

There are also giant snowflakes – well there were, they’re tinier now, but earlier they were really really big and falling slowly. Way more fun than yesterday when there was lots of snow that was falling super fast….like a pouring rain, except…snow. There was almost a glimpse of blue sky too, but then more clouds came, now the sun looks like a cotton ball.

From what the weathermen say there will be more snow today and into tomorrow….but the nutcracker is on Thursday so hopefully the roads will be clear for that.

Oh lovely Sunday

Today I went out and braved the weather to buy some candles that smell (more) like a christmas tree. Right now, we’re on the couch with the tree lights on, candles flickering, christmas pictures circling through the apple TV and some Rudolph music on the radio. It feels warm and happy and peaceful as we sip our tea and just hang out. Which is basically how I spent all the rest of the day, and wrapping an extra present while we wait for the rest to come in the mail (yay online shopping!).

Moments like this are awesome. I’m home.
